Mojang used to allow users to register free accounts with a username. Mineshafter Squared worked by simply authenticating an account (not checking for premium status), which worked great because our authentication was integrated right into Mojang's. They recently changed their system so that users must register a Mojang account, then buy Minecraft to get a username (this is better). We nolonger have a way to assign usernames that won't conflict with premium accounts (what happens if we let someone register the username 'pooploser69
', and someone buys 'pooploser69'? Or if a new Youtube star rises and someone registers his or her username?).
One solution is to append a prefix to new MS2 accounts so that they are identifiable; we have chosen
because Mojang names can't contain square brackets and so our names won't conflict. So you may have a name like
. Note: this only applies to accounts registered after the new Mojang system).
Don't like the name? Buy Minecraft
. We (the developers) have. Mojang is a great indie company - they get every penny you pay - and they deserve it!
This is implemented temporarily (by the same developers) as we've had many requests to enable registration! This is the official service
, but this site is temporary. We will be integrating user profiles with the awesome skin system and website later! We reserve the right to reset this data at any time! Mineshafter Squared is a free service.
